👨‍💻 Mission Planning as a Service (2021 - present)

·331 words·2 mins

In this project, I served as Technical Lead, spearheading the transformation of a critical spatial planning tool. The challenge, which began in 2021, involved evolving a robust desktop client—though limited by its monolithic architecture—into a microservices-based web platform.

Architecture and Migration Strategy
#

My primary focus was to design the roadmap for breaking down the legacy client into distinct, modular, and decoupled services.

  • API-First: I designed a scalable backend layer based on REST APIs, which allowed us to separate the planning logic from the interface and facilitated integration with external tools.

  • Accessibility: We transformed the software into a solution accessible from any standard browser, eliminating the deployment barriers of the traditional client.

Containerization and Operational Efficiency
#

To ensure reliability in a sector as demanding as aerospace, I implemented a strategy of comprehensive containerization with Docker.

Impact: We succeeded in unifying the development, testing, and production environments, ensuring that the system behaves identically on any infrastructure.

This approach not only improved process reproducibility and isolation but also prepared the platform for Cloud Native deployments, drastically simplifying update and scaling cycles.

Frontend Development and User Experience
#

I led the development of a modern web interface that replaced the legacy system. The goal was not only aesthetic but also functional: to reduce the user’s cognitive load and eliminate local dependencies, significantly expanding the potential user base thanks to a gentler learning curve.

Leadership and Stakeholder Management
#

Beyond the code, my role involved acting as a bridge between technology and the business:

  • Technical Alignment: I coordinated the backend and frontend teams to ensure a coherent architecture.

  • Communication: I managed stakeholder expectations, ensuring that technological evolution did not compromise the critical reliability required by the original missions.

Current Status and Impact
#

The platform is now a scalable, automated, and future-ready ecosystem. I continue to lead its evolution, integrating new features and optimizing services to address emerging challenges in the space sector. My priority remains the same: sustainable growth without sacrificing operational excellence.
